Cert. of Occupancy

  • A Certificate of Occupancy is issued from the building department office after all required electrical, mechanical and plumbing inspections have passed final inspection and after the building construction project is complete and passes a final building inspection without any corrections necessary.  The certificate of occupancy is released to the building permit applicant.  A certificate of occupancy must be obtained prior to any occupancy of a structure.
  • A Temporary Certificate of Occupancy is very occasionally issued from the building department office and upon request only.  All required electrical, mechanical and plumbing inspections must have passed final inspection and there remains very minor building issues to be completed.  Payment of a $45.00 fee is required prior to issuance of a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy.  The Temporary Certificate of Occupancy is released to the building permit applicant. Temporary Certificates of Occupancy are valid for 30, 60 or 90 days, as determined by the building inspector.  A final building inspection must be completed at the end of the 30-90 days to avoid revocation of temporary certificate of occupancy and addition fines or penalties.
